Shashi Won Thousands of Votes

First a quote from Rumi. Between Michel Foucault. Hindi shayari at the end.

After losing the Congress presidential election, Shashi Tharoor said that despite his defeat, the Congress has won. It has been proved that Congress workers elect the President by voting.

Statement from Congress sources

According to Congress sources, even if he loses the presidential election, Tharoor may get a place in the Congress Working Committee or other important posts under the chairmanship of Kharge. Because he fought the polls even though he knew he was going to lose, the Gandhi family was able to convey the message of internal democracy to Congress. Rahul Gandhi himself said in Andhra Pradesh yesterday that only the Congress is elected to the top posts. Questions arise about it. There is no election in BJP. No one questions that.

Rahul also said, “Kharge and Tharoor, both experienced and wise. Whoever gets elected doesn’t need my advice.”

More about Tharoor

Before joining the Congress and becoming the MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor served as the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations. He lost the election for the post of Secretary General. Although Tharoor lost the Congress president election yesterday, many people were surprised by his number of votes. It was known that Tharoor would lose to Mallikarjun Kharge. But many did not expect Tharoor to get more than 1000 votes. Jitendra Prasad got only 94 votes against Sonia Gandhi in the last Congress presidential election 22 years ago.

This time Tharoor got 1072 votes as a candidate against Sonia Gandhi’s blessing and her successor Mallikarjun Kharge. Party leaders believe that many voted for Tharoor because of his popularity, higher education, and an image different from that of a traditional Congress leader. During the counting of votes, someone drew a picture of an arrow going through a heart next to Tharoor’s name on the ballot paper. However, that vote has been canceled.

Quoting Foucault yesterday, Tharoor said the task of intellectuals is to participate in the process of building political will. Quoting Rumi, he said, if every friction is disturbed, how will the mirror be smooth? And to show that everyone is his colleague despite contesting the election, he wrote in poetry, “Udhar bhi apne hi the, sab ke sab, idhar bhi apne the, sare ke sare.”

As soon as the result of the vote was announced, Tharoor went to Kharge’s house yesterday and congratulated him. Even if Tharoor fights against him, Kharge gives him the message to go with him. “He met me,” Kharge said.

During the elections, Tharoor complained that Kharge was getting more advantage in the campaign. During the counting of votes yesterday, there were complaints from Tharoor’s camp that two ballot boxes from Uttar Pradesh were not correctly numbered. Salman Soj, Karti Chidambaram, and Riju Ghoshal were on duty as Tharoor’s election agents. Salman complained about this to Madhusudan Mistry, the in-charge election leader. Mistry dismissed the allegations. He said, even if all the votes in those two boxes were returned, his vote would have increased by 400.
