India Takes On Australia In The First Semi-Finals Of The Women’s T20 World Cup

According to a report published in The Times Of India, Team India prepares to battle against the mighty Australian side in the Women’s T20 World Cup semi-finals at Newlands in Cape Town. Australians have been five-time champions but the spirit in the Indian camp is high as well. Richa Ghosh who happens to be the keeper-batter of India has said that although the Australians are a mighty opponent but, team India has every capacity of defeating them. India has outplayed Australia in the previous series and also in the past and so Ghosh is confident about winning the semi-finals too.

The Indian team is currently working on improving their weak areas and also on their mindset before the game. Both India and Australia have played five T20 World Cup matches till now where India has won two and the Australians have won three matches. If you look at the overall T20 games between these two women’s teams then both of them have played thirty T20 matches against each other where twenty-two of the matches were won by Australia and India won seven matches. According to the rankings the Australian women’s team is in the number one position in the ICC rankings and India is in the fourth position.

On the field, these two sides have been great rivals and so you can expect to have an interesting match with a full house attendance. In this T20 World Cup, both these sides have maintained a very contrasting path. Australians have won each of their games and have topped Group I whereas the Indian side has remained in the second spot in their Group 2 after losing against England.

In an interview, Mithali Raj the former captain of the Indian women’s cricket team said that India needs to put up their best performance in the semi-finals because this is a knockout stage and the Australian side is a very tough opponent. Because they are the best side in the world so India needs to excel in all three departments of the game.

In the semi-finals, Australians are seen as the favorites but India has every capacity to defeat them. But in order to win the match the Indian women’s side needs to play together as a team and deliver their highest potential. India also needs to put up a good total on the board if batting first.

There have been some patchy performances for the Indian side in this tournament. They have won the games more on individual performances. The current form of Harmanpreet Kaur has been a concern lately. Out of the four matches that she has played in this competition she has managed to score only sixty-six runs. In the semi-finals, she has to lead the team from the front. Although Smriti has been in good form in this World Cup scoring a hundred and forty-nine runs in three matches but, she needs a good partnership to support her game further. The Australian side is in high spirits and form and so the crowd can expect to witness an exciting match.
