World Cup Campaign in Crisis Without Bumrah

A hint of a sudden storm in the sky for India’s World Cup campaign. The storm that could end the dream of regaining the T20 World Cup after 14 years.

Rohit Sharma’s team may have to travel to Australia without Jasprit Bumrah. According to Indian board sources, Bumrah will not play in the World Cup due to a back injury. Which is going to start on October 22. Bumrah may be out of cricket for at least 4 to 6 months due to a ‘stress fracture’.

Report from a board official

No official statement on Bumrah’s injury has been made by the Indian board till Thursday night. But a board official told news agency PTI, “It is certain that Bumrah will not play the T20 World Cup. He has a serious back injury. He has a stress fracture. He may be out of cricket for 6 months.”

Bumrah was resting for some time due to an injury. He did not play in the Asia Cup. He then played the last two matches in the Australia series. But he did not play in the first match against South Africa on Wednesday. According to the Indian board, Bumrah has a back problem. But there was no indication of how serious the problem could be. However, Sunil Gavaskar expressed concern over Bumrah’s injury.

On the 29th, the news spread like a cloudless thunderbolt in Indian cricket circles. It is learned that Bumrah did not even come to Thiruvananthapuram with the team. It is heard that he is in Bangalore. There is no doubt that Bumrah not playing in the World Cup means that the Indian bowling will be severely weakened. From that Asia Cup, questions have arisen about India’s bowling towards the end. Harshal Patel or Bhuvneshwar Kumar are giving away a lot of runs towards the end. Due to this India had to lose several matches.

Captain’s concern

Skipper Rohit Sharma also expressed concern over India’s ‘death bowling’. It is especially seen that the Indian bowlers are losing the match by 16-18 runs in the 19th over. When playing, the 19th over was usually bowled by Bumrah. India fans were hoping that Bumrah’s return would solve this problem. In his absence, Bhuvneshwar is unable to handle that responsibility properly. But the absence of Bumrah in the World Cup means that question arises again. Who will handle the Indian bowling in the end?

Many cricket experts wanted Bumrah and Mohammad Sami to play together in the T20 World Cup. Both were expected to get help from the Australian wicket. Praising Bumrah, former Australian batsman Mark Waugh included the Indian pacer in his list of top 5 T20 cricketers in the world.

That Bumrah is now out of the team. Shami and Deepak Chahar are on the standby list of India’s World Cup team. Either of these two will play in Bumrah’s place in the World Cup. Notable in this case, a ‘stress fracture’ means a particular part of the bone is cracked.
