UPSC Invites Applications for Senior-Level Contractual Positions in Central Government Ministries

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has called for applications for contractual recruitment to various Joint Secretary, Director, and Deputy Secretary level positions in various central government ministries and departments.

Eligibility Criteria

It also varies depending on the post that is being applied for. However, some of the general requirements are a postgraduate degree in the relevant field, a minimum of 15 years of working experience, and at least 10 years of working experience in a leadership position for Joint Secretary jobs. For Director posts, a minimum experience of 15 years is required, and for Deputy Secretary posts, a minimum experience of 12 years is needed. The age limit is 55 years for the post of Joint Secretary, 45 years for the post of Director, and 40 years for the post of Deputy Secretary.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidates will be able to serve in key positions as policy researchers, analysts, policy advisors, capacity builders/partners, policy advocates, and program implementers, among others, depending on the ministry they are assigned to.

For instance, the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and the IT Government of India shall spearhead some of the major electronic manufacturing programs. Likewise, the Joint Secretary in the Environment Ministry shall be responsible for the environmental laws and policies.

Pay and Allowances

The position of Joint Secretary has a total gross monthly salary of approximately ₹2.7 lakhs. This includes dearness allowance, transport allowance, and house rent allowance as per central government norms.

The gross monthly salary paid to a Director post will be around ₹ 2,32,000/- whereas, for the post of Deputy Secretary, the gross pay will be around ₹ 1,52,000/-.

The appointment shall be contractual for a term of three years, renewable up to five years, depending on the performance of the candidate.
