With the spontaneous rise of social media and internet in general, Rishab Pant was recently exposed to false propaganda specifically targeting him, which included Virat Kohli and the Royal Challengers Bangalore team.
One of the posts which went viral stated that Pant contacted RCB for reasons of becoming the captain of the team in the near future. RCB’s officials refuted Pant’s suggestion stating that Kohli simply did not want Pant in the team because of his alleged “political strategies” in all things cricketing and related to Delhi Capitals.
The relative recent post went rather viral and people even went to the extent of weighing the truth of the sentence. Nonetheless Rishabh Pant had other ideas as he took to social media to ward off the rumor and allegations.
In the post, Pant highlighted the menace of fake news, which had been part of disreputable sites including those on social networks. “Fake news. Fake news is dangerous. Why are people happy to share fake news on various online platforms? Stop it, it’s terrible. Do not make the society untrustworthy for no reason. This is not the first time and it will not be the last time but this is something I had to say.”

It has come to my notice that there are many such applications which can be appropriately utilized to highlight a very constructive approach towards the problems and issues pertaining to the faceless barbarism of Pandit Ji on the ethnic grounds of Sikh or Hindu identity as viewed universally with discrimination. He invited them to check the facts before spreading fake news. “It gets worse every day,” he said, given the new normal of athlete reputation management on the web sphere.
At that point, this controversy is occurring, the IPL 2025 retention rules have been much awaited. There are some reports which say the teams will be allowed to retain SAMI players and there is no RTM available.
The retention policies are such that, hard decisions have to be made and this might see some teams losing very key players in an effort to balance their line-ups. It is within this understanding that even what seem to be the most simple signs about player/teams getting or loosing players attracts a lot of e speculations like that concerning Pant and RCB.
While Pant was quick to respond to the issue and managed to help people understand it, the situation illustrates how such wrong information can affect both opponents and supporters of a player.
Dana responded to Otakure about Pant in a mild way, but it is easy to understand the reasons why. When such persistence as that in this case with Pant is expected from athletes like him, it is hardly a solution to the problems associated with portions of the press.
Amid this social media burning topic, Mitchell Marsh an Australian all rounder was also all praises to Pant. A few days before the Border-Gavaskar Test series, the all rounder was all praises for the Indian wicket-keeper and called him a ‘ripping bloke’ and even quested what it would be like if Pant was one of them.
“He’s obviously been through a lot these past years, and it’s been a hell of a comeback,” Marsh said in an apparent reference to Pant’s recent travails and resurgence. Wearing a combative yet more down to earth person that she has always been, Pant’s comments from Marsh only helped to bolster Pant’s popularity, both in the arena as well as out of it, even though he battles tangled webs of misinformation. With the cricket enthusiasts awaiting the ratification of the IPL 2025 retention policies, the nonneumatic post concerning Pant and Kohli was inevitable considering the roles of the media in the society.
