Gujarat Titans after scoring 188 runs, become the first team to qualify for playoffs in IPL 2023. So, now it is official that SRH is no more in the race for playoffs. The Titans team witnessed a sizzling maiden IPL century from Shumban Gill which helped the team to win the match. The 34-run win over SRH also paved the way for the Titans to be under a top-two finish.
Gill has scored 101 runs in 58 balls, his first-ever ton of the league. Shumban Gill’s extraordinary performance placed his team into a top-two finish in the league phase and become the first team to qualify for the playoffs. Gill becomes the first-ever GT player to score a century in IPL history. This was their last league stage game at home ground.
The team also witnessed Mohit Sharma and Mohammad Shami’s impressive form with the white ball. Mohammad Shami took four wickets against SRH. Despite Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s brilliant five-wicket haul, the team couldn’t make it to playoffs. With this match, SRH become the second team after Delhi Capital to get knocked out of IPL.
This was the 62nd match of the Indian Premier League, played between SRH and GT. The match also made headlines due to the new lavender jersey worn by GT players. The jersey is different from their regular dark blue jersey. The lavender jersey worn by GT players is a part of their initiative to bring awareness about cancer.
The lavender color usually indicates oesophageal cancer, but now it is used to bring awareness regarding all kinds of cancers. Hardik Pandya in a statement said that cancer is a global concern and millions are suffering from this deadly disease. He added “We as a team feel responsible to bring awareness about cancer. Wearing lavender jersey, we are showing solidarity with cancer patients worldwide.”
Pandya also said that this initiative will inspire others to take preventive measures and will encourage others to support cancer patients. In 2015, Delhi Capital also wore lavender jerseys to bring awareness about cancer. This initiative of Delhi Capitals was a combined effort of Yuvraj Singh’s NGO YouWeCan and the team.
The former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh was diagnosed with cancer after India’s 2011 World Cup triumph. Yuvraj spent almost a year away from the ground for his cancer treatment. His comeback in 2012 is an inspiration to those who suffer from cancer and become hopeless. Yuvraj has inspired many to fight cancer and make their way out.
A few weeks back, Royal Challengers Bangalore players wore green color jerseys in the 32nd match against Rajasthan Royals at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. This was a part of their initiative to bring awareness about a cleaner and greener environment. Since 2011, the RCB team wears a green jersey once in every season of IPL, which is a part of their ‘Go Green’ initiative. Their jersey was made from recycled waste collected at the stadium. As per the reports, the stadium generated a high amount of waste per match.
