England Team Gets Stunned At Deepti Sharma’s Mankading

Jhulan Goswami’s last international match remains controversial. Controversy surrounds Indian bowler Deepti Sharma’s ‘Mankad run out’ of England non-striker Charlotte Dean at Lord’s on Saturday. Harmanpreet Kaur’s team set a target of 170 runs in front of England. They scored 153 runs in 43.3 overs and were all out. Deepti gets a ‘Mankad run out’ of the last batter Dean.

Indian captain’s comment

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur stood by Deepti on Saturday after the 3-0 series win. Said, “I thought you would want to know about England’s ten outs. We didn’t get any of them easily. Deepti’s run-out is part of cricket. It’s not against the rules. We didn’t do anything new.” She added, “This incident proves how careful we were in dismissing the opposition cricketer and about the batter’s movements. I will always stand by my team’s cricketers. Deepti did not do anything outside the law. And at the end of the day, winning means winning. We are not willing to think anything else.”

Commenting on the team’s overall performance, “It was not easy to bat on the Lord’s wicket. Still, our batters did their job beautifully. We wanted a score of 170 with four wickets down. We knew we had good pacers and spinners to get them out.” We never thought the match was out of hand.” Her reaction to Jhulan’s last match was, “She was the captain during my debut. I had a lot of people by my side in good times. But it was Jhulan who extended a helping hand in bad times. I had to go to her once. I want to thank her sincerely. I want to say, you will always be with us. I also know that her door is always open. Forever Jhulan steered me on the right path.”

Like Harmanpreet, the Indian men’s cricket team spinner, R. Ashwin stood next to Deepti. He tweeted, “Why is everyone making a fuss (trending) about Ashwin? Today is about another bowling hero, Deepti Sharma.” Incidentally, Jos Buttler also did a ‘Mankad run out’ in the 2019 IPL. With which less water was not muddied. On Saturday, the British crowd continued to boo the Indian team at Lord’s. They could not accept Dean’s (47 off 80 balls) out!

As England captain Amy Jones put it, she didn’t like the way Deepti gave Dean a ‘Mankad run out’. After the match, she said, “Not happy with the result. We bowled very well. We just needed a good pair. And there are bound to be differences of opinion about the last out.” Like Jones, two experienced bowlers like Stuart Broad and Jimmy Anderson could not accept Dean’s dismissal.

Sourav Ganguly and others congratulated Jhulan Goswami

Even after Jhulan Goswami’s retirement, the frenzy surrounding her in the media did not subside. Sachin Tendulkar gave a message about the retirement of the legend. On Saturday, the media was flooded with one message after another. Virat Kohli to Sourav Ganguly. No one was left out!
