Ayushman Bharat Mission launched by PM in Varanasi

Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister has launched the Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission on Monday in Varanasi. This scheme is touted to be among the largest and pan-Indian schemes for the improvement of the healthcare infrastructure. The Mission was launched in PM Modi’s constituency in Uttar Pradesh. 

Mr. Modi also launched and inaugurated various other development projects in Varanasi. These are expected to be around Rs. 5,200 crores. The Ayushman Bharat comes in addition to the already-existing National Health Mission and is a significant addition to strengthening the Indian healthcare infrastructure. 

Mr. Modi took the stance to applaud the nation for achieving the 100 crore vaccine doses milestone in the gathering. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Modi said, “With blessings of Baba Vishwanath, Maa Ganga & trust of people of Kashi, the campaign of ‘Sabko vaccine, muft vaccine’ is going ahead successfully.” 

The Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission comes intending to empower public health infrastructure. Working towards eliminating the gaps, this Mission lays its focus on the primary care and critical care facilities. The Mission applies to both rural and urban areas of the country. 

This Mission is said to lend its support to the wellness and health centers of the ten states under higher focus. In total, around 17,788 rural will receive support from the scheme. Moreover, 11,024 health and wellness centers would be established as a part of the scheme in all the states of the country. 

The Ayushman Bharat ensures that critical medical services are available to the districts where the population is more than five lakhs in every state. These services would be made available through hospital blocks exclusive for critical care. The referral services would cover the remaining districts whose population is less than five lakhs, as per the mission. 

Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh thanked the Prime Minister for choosing Varanasi to inaugurate the Ayushman Bharat Mission. Mr. Modi also inaugurated nine medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh as a part of his visit. Varanasi happens to be the place where Mr. Modi won his Lok Sabha seat and his constituency. 

On Monday, Mr. Modi also stated that India will soon have more doctors, owing to the inaugural of various new medical colleges. Yogi Adityanath stated that 30 medical colleges are being opened under the BJP’s rule. 

A national institution for one health and a research platform on a regional basis for WHO in the region of southeast Asia laboratories would be set up as a part of the Ayushman Bharat mission. Furthermore, four new institutes for virology on the national level, five new disease control national centers at the regional level, and nine level III biosafety would also be inaugurated as a part of the Mission. 

Through the Mission, the public can have the access to a complete set of diagnostic services. The public healthcare systems would cover these services by working with a network of different labs across the nation. Various integrated health labs for the public would also be launched as a part of the Ayushman Bharat.
