Police have arrested six people from Uttarakhand today in connection with the murder of popular Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moosewala. All of them are being taken to Punjab. Moosewala’s father claims he was an eyewitness to his son’s murder. He lodged an FIR with the police stating how the attack was carried out. The main suspect in Moosewala’s murder is gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The jailed gangster feared he might be killed in a fake encounter. He has approached the court with this allegation. After the murder of singer-songwriter Moosewala in Punjab’s Mansa district, police claimed that Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang was behind the incident. A search was conducted in Uttarakhand yesterday and 6 people were arrested. They were hiding among the pilgrims of Hemkund Sahib. The six were arrested in a joint operation by the Punjab Police Special Task Force and the Uttarakhand Task Force from the Palio Police Station area in Dehradun.

Moosewala’s father Balkaur Singh has lodged a complaint with the police. He alleged that many gangsters were threatening his son. Among them was Lawrence Bishnoi was one. “Yesterday, Moosewala drove out on his own with two friends named Gurwinder Singh and Gurpreet Singh. He did not take the bulletproof vehicle and the two bodyguards. I was tagging behind with those guards” he said. In the words of Moosewala’s father, “Suddenly two cars blocked the road and started firing. It was as if bullets were raining down on the car. There were four people each in those two cars. The shots were fired and they disappeared in an instant. People gathered at my shout. I was the one who took my wounded son and his two friends to the hospital.”

Punjab Police Chief V K Bhawra said yesterday that Moosewala’s murder was the result of group conflicts of gangsters. Lawrence is the mastermind behind this murder. He is being held in Delhi’s Tihar Jail on a number of charges, including Mokoko. Today, he approached the Patiala House Court in Delhi, asking that he not be handed over to the Punjab police. His fear is that he may be killed in a fake encounter. Lawrence’s lawyer asked in court, “How is it possible to conspire to commit such a heinous murder while in prison?”
